RESERVE TEAM DEBUT: 8th August 2004 v. Northmet (Riverside) Reserves (Pre-Season
Friendly Match at the Riverside Club, Turkey Street, Enfield)
|
|
PROFILE: Tem was brought along to the club as a 16-year-old by Colin Bester at Pre-Season
Training during the Summer of 2004 after previously playing in Youth Football, particularly
in the 7-a-side Leagues at the Southbury Leisure Centre. Scored a good goal on his
debut for the Reserve Team shortly afterwards and then went on to make 14 appearances
for the Reserves until we folded the side up at the end of that season. Tem then
decided to play in a Turkish Community Youth League for most of the 2005-2006 Season
following the Reserve Team's demise, but returned towards the end of the season to
try and gain a regular place in the First Team. Has been with us ever since and won
the Most Improved Player Award for Season 2007-2008, but a lack of fitness has often
let him down (due to eating too many kebabs ?), thereby resulting in some niggling
injuries in recent seasons. Despite being small in height, Tem has very good control
and passing ability and has plenty of years ahead of him to gain a regular place
in the side in his favoured central midfield position if he puts his mind to it,
although he has been unable to play in Pre-Season due to a toe injury. Tem is an
Arsenal supporter who works in the Arsenal Club Shop, which therefore means he often
works on Sundays during November & December, but he normally makes himself available
for Rovers matches on a regular basis after Christmas.

PROFILE: Dean was brought along by Lee King during the Summer of 2010 to play in
our 7-a-side League matches and he immediately impressed with his skilful attacking
midfield play and goalscoring ability. Had only previously played in Youth football
on Sundays when he joined and is currently our joint-youngest player, but he has
already looked capable of gaining a regular place in the starting line-up in a central
or right-sided midfield role and indeed he played well in some key matches for us
last season. Dean is of Ghanaian descent and is currently studying at Hertford Regional
College to become a football coach. Like several other Rovers players, he is an Arsenal

PROFILE: ‘Barney' made just one Pre-Season Friendly appearance back in 2001 but was
unable to join the club at the time due to work and studying commitments in Portsmouth.
Has still managed to play for Edmonton Cricket Club during the Summer for several
years though, which was where he knew some of our players from, and having returned
to live in the Edmonton area at the start of Season 2006-2007 he decided to sign
up and play for Rovers on a fairly regular basis, albeit a bit reluctantly at first
due to 'Saturday Night partying' ?! Immediately gained a regular place in the side
as a ‘cultured’ ball-playing central defender/sweeper and is very much a key player,
although he often takes 'a few' holidays during the season as cricket is his number
one sport. Has also dabbled in snowboarding, running marathons, long-distance cycling
and even netball amongst other sports and is undoubtedly one of our fittest players...unlike
some of our other defenders ! Is now a Rovers Management Committee member where his
responsibilities are invariably organising Pre-Match warm-ups (if any of our players
are interested), washing the kit, cleaning out the changing rooms & showers after
Home matches and picking up litter from the touchlines. Well, somebody’s got to do
it ! Is a big supporter of Ryman League side Enfield Town on Saturdays, along with
fellow Rovers team-mates Tim Beeden & Gavin Mardell.

|
PROFILE: Tim was brought along to the club way back in 1988 as a 16-year-old by current
Manager Trevor Hughes, who at the time was a work colleague of Tim’s father at Tottenham
Magistrates Court. Tim’s younger brothers Russell and Chris (‘Nugget’) then followed
and also became Rovers ‘legends’. Tim scored the winner in a 1-0 victory against
a Mercury Waltham League Premier Division side on his debut, so his talent was obvious,
especially when he scored one of Rovers best-ever individual goals in a 3-2 win against
Coach & Horses later on that season. Went on to play in 57 Matches, scoring 8 Goals
in total from a left-sided midfield position, but was forced into retirement in March
1991 when he dislocated his knee playing for Norsemen in the Southern Amateur League
on Saturdays and then, like his brothers Russell and Chris, put on so much weight
while he was out of action that he appeared to have no hope of ever making a full
recovery ! Did manage to play a one-off game as a substitute in October 1994 against
AFC Breda (an easy 12-1 victory), but by then he had already turned his attention
to serving on Rovers Management Committee and playing for Edmonton Cricket Club.
Was made a Club Life Vice-President after leaving the Management Committee in the
mid-2000’s and it looked like he would never be involved with Rovers again, but he
has since gone on a fitness drive with the help of his Edmonton Cricket Club & Rovers
colleague Alan Barnard and now regularly attends training with a view to playing
if required. Plays in goal on Saturdays for ex-Rovers player Jim Arrowsmith’s Church
Team and has already shown at training that he is still capable of doing a useful
job as an outfield player if called upon. Tim is an Enfield Town and Spurs supporter.

PROFILE: Joined the club as a 16-year old for the start of Season 2004-2005 as a
result of his mother Gill being a work colleague of Manager Trevor Hughes. Had only
previously played in Youth football, and mainly in small-sided matches alongside
Tem Adil, who also joined us at the same time. Despite being small in stature though,
Colin soon gained a regular place in the Reserve Team as a competitive right-back
and ended up playing fairly regularly for the First Team in the Premier Division
by the end of that first season with numerous older players having left the club.
Won the Reserve Team Player Of The Year award for Season 2004-2005 in addition to
the Club Most Improved Player award, but then left the club when the Reserve Team
folded and decided to concentrate on playing Saturday football for Old Edmontonians
due to work commitments on Sundays as a Community Coach at Arsenal. Was out of action
for 18 months due to a cruciate ligament injury but made a comeback for Rovers last
season when he played in 7 matches and attended training regularly. Has now improved
his fitness and will be hoping to gain a regular place in the side this season as
a full-back or wing-back.

PROFILE: Rob joined us towards the end of Season 2007-2008 after having a few beers

from playing Saturday football in the Southern Amateur League with Norsemen a few
years ago and from playing for London Ajax against us in the Premier Division of
our League. Scored on his debut in a 4-1 win against St. Margaretsbury and has been
a key player for us since then in a defensive midfield role, although he can also
play in defence or even as a right wing-back when needed. Unfortunately suffered
a serious knee injury in the last minute of our last match last season and has not
played since, but we are hoping he will be able to make a comeback at some stage
this season. Rob is a very competitive player and a real ‘winner’ who does not like
losing ! He is also a very keen Arsenal supporter who will miss Rovers matches to
get himself ‘tanked up’ to watch the occasional Arsenal match !

Senior County League. Now seems to be concentrating more on playing Sunday football
for us though as an attacking central midfielder or as a ‘deep-lying’ forward playing
off a ‘target man’. Terry is a very fit and competitive player who, like his brother
Rob , will always give 100%. Has a habit of talking non-stop at great speed to Referees
and opponents during matches, therefore coming across as a bit of a ‘nutter’, but
as far as we are concerned he is a great character (and Harry Hill-lookalike) who
always livens up the changing room ! Like his brother Rob, Terry is also an Arsenal

and signed a registration form after impressing everyone with his speed and ability
in either of the full-back positions in 11-a-side practice matches. However, he did
not make his debut until August 2004 due to a persistent groin injury....and going
out clubbing on Saturday nights ?! That saw him only play a handful of games for
us that season and he left shortly afterwards, later re-surfacing playing for our
Division One rivals McKenzie Rangers, where he scored the winner for them in a 1-0
victory against us at Hazelwood last season ! Has now decided to re-join us for this
Season with McKenzie Rangers having folded, but now plays in a central midfield
holding role having ‘filled out a bit’ since his younger days with us ! Played for
some successful Youth Teams in the past in the very strong Echo Junior League in

PROFILE: Steve was brought along to the club at the start of the 2001-2002 Season
by his former Club Secretary Scott Robertson from the now-defunct Beehive (Wormley)
F.C., who were in our Division in the Mercury Waltham Sunday League the season before.
Had no hesitation in joining us as he lived only a couple of minutes away from our
Home Pitch at Hazelwood Sports Ground. However, the club was also recommended to
him by Stuart Dorward, who was one of his team-mates at Spartan South Midlands League
side Hoddesdon Town in the mid-late-90's. Steve has also played regularly in Saturday
football (for Old Minchendenians First XI in the Amateur Football Combination) and
was on West Bromwich Albion's books as a youngster, so he has a very good pedigree
and is a real expert at taking set-pieces. Despite being small in stature, he has
often been used as a lone striker during his Rovers career and was particularly effective
in that role when we finished third in the Premier Division in Season 2002-2003,
but he switched to a left-sided midfield role towards the end of Season 2006-2007
following a bit of a goal drought and has since proved to be very useful in that
position as well. Should be a regular in the starting line-up again this season if
increasing work and family commitments allow and he can maintain his fitness. Works
as a plumber and supports Manchester United.

PROFILE: Was brought along as an 18-year-old (un-announced !) to a Reserve Team Pre-Season
Friendly in August 2004 by Leon McKenzie-McKay and promptly scored two goals in a
minute within 30 seconds of coming on as a substitute...despite never having played
in a properly-organised game of 11-a-side football before !! Then went on to score
a hat-trick on his First Team debut in another Pre-Season Friendly whilst showing
some frightening pace, skill and ability. Only ended up playing in nine matches in
that first spell with the club though, mainly because he thought his team-mates were
having a go at him when they were just trying to help him and explain things tactically...having
a tendency to run offside and running off the pitch without asking the referee's
permission being just two of 'Daley's problems !
Also tended to spend his subs on gold chains and loud designer tracksuits in those
early days, but after a spell playing for the Reserve Team of Conference South side
Thurrock, he soon accepted the error of his ways and made a comeback for us towards
the end of Season 2006-2007 when he immediately made an impact by bringing some much-needed
pace to our ageing forward line. Gained a fairly regular place in the side thereafter,
but left at the start of Season 2010-2011 to try his luck with McKenzie Rangers following
our usual lack of success at winning trophies. Has now returned to the club for this
season along with Leon McKenzie-McKay and Daniel Cascoe with McKenzie Rangers now
having folded up, and admits he made a mistake leaving in the first place. Daley
is a Manchester United supporter.

PROFILE: Danny joined the club as an 18-year-old back in August 2006 after becoming
disillusioned with the poor standard of football at his previous club in the Premier
Division of the now defunct Walthamstow-based Forest Sunday League. As he had previously
been on the books of Leyton Orient as a Junior and was already playing for Crouch
End Vampires' First XI in the Southern Amateur League on Saturdays though, we had
no hesitation in taking him on despite him just e-mailing us out of the blue (having
seen our club website...and videos ?) and not knowing anybody ! Not surprisingly
he made a good impression as a competitive central midfield player on his debut in
a Pre-Season Friendly against Flamstead End, and then in several League and Cup matches
thereafter. Unfortunately though, Danny missed a lot of matches because of various
injuries in his first season, but he has since played more regularly and is very
much a key player for us and one of the first names on Manager Trevor Hughes's team-sheet.
Indeed he won the Manager’s Player Of The Year Award last season and has also now
been made Club Captain with Stuart Dorward retiring. Still continues to play for
Crouch End Vampires First XI on Saturdays and is a mad keen Spurs supporter.

Match at the Ashton Playing Fields, Woodford Bridge)
|
|
PROFILE: Lexton came to England from his native Jamaica in 1997 as a 17-year-old
and immediately joined Edmonton Cricket Club to play his more natural sport but was
soon coaxed into taking up football with Rovers even though he had never played in
a properly organised match before. Was initially troubled by experienced Sunday League
defenders winding him up to try and get him sent off, but Manager Trevor Hughes's
coaching soon paid dividends with Lexton's powerful build and pace bringing comparisons
with Emile Heskey (albeit in a 'semi-humorous' article in a Camcorder magazine !).
Missed the whole of Season 2001-2002 as he had to catch up on his studying after
ending up in hospital with a bad knee injury suffered against Upshire Coach & Horses
in March 2001. Was then more often used as a substitute when we finished third in
the Premier Division in Season 2002-2003 and then played mainly for our Reserve Team
when we re-formed them the following Season. However, Lexton then left the club at
the start of the 2004-2005 Season and surprisingly re-surfaced a couple of years
later playing for Brimsdown Rovers in the Spartan South Midlands League and then
for Enfield Town in the Ryman League...but as a central defender ! He then left Enfield
Town and seemingly just ‘disappeared’ for four years...he was busy studying as it
turned out...until Simon Jackson suddenly decided to phone him out of the blue at
the start of last season to see whether he wanted to start playing for Rovers again.
Surprisingly, Lexton agreed and has since shown a far greater awareness of tactics
than in his previous spell with the club, although Manager Trevor Hughes had no plans
to play him anywhere else but as a centre-forward. However, due to a shortage of
defenders this season, Lexton has been tried out as a central defender in Pre-Season
and is now likely to remain in that position, although as he still holds a Club Goalscoring
Record by scoring 6 in one match in a Pre-Season Friendly against Division Four side
BBFC in August 2002, he may well be used as a forward again if we are struggling
to score goals. Lexton is an Arsenal supporter.

PROFILE: ‘Jacko’ was brought along to the club in the Summer of 2003 by Conor Mc,Govern,
whose ex-girlfriend is a friend of Jacko’s wife. Originally from Stoke-On-Trent,
Jacko is a loyal Stoke City supporter and before he joined Rovers he spent his Sunday
mornings playing with other ex-pats from the Stoke area for a Pub team in the Chiswick
Sunday League called 'Hole In The Head' (or something like that ?!). However, as
he lives in Enfield, playing for Rovers is obviously a lot more convenient. Jacko
is an excellent shot-stopper but has suffered from injury problems and a lack of
concentration and commitment at times since joining us due to his number one sport
being cricket, where he is (or was ?) a fast bowler for the First XI of top Hertfordshire
side Radlett. Has also entered 'Ironman' competitions as another pastime that has
stopped him playing for Rovers, but the past 2 or 3 seasons have seen him concentrate
more on football, especially now we have training in midweek where he can fling himself
about on the rock-hard first generation Astroturf without wearing padded keepers’
trousers ! Jacko is a very vocal presence on the pitch for us with his broad Northern
accent often bellowing round the grounds we play at, while off the pitch he is most
definitely a real character with his changing room banter (particularly in the showers),
Forum comments and George N’Bogwou alter-ego(s)...amongst other things.

PROFILE: Darryl was signed back in 2001 along with Steve Cokell when their previous
club Beehive (Wormley) folded, and he proved to be a useful acquisition in his first
season standing-in for then first-choice keeper Stavros Elia, although work & family
commitments on a Sunday restricted his appearances to just six. However, when Stavros
left the club during the middle of Season 2002-2003, Darryl became Rovers regular
first-choice keeper and played well enough to earn himself the Most Improved Player
Award at the end of the season. Although Darryl let in a couple of 'silly' goals
when playing against us for Beehive in the 2000-2001 Season, that has since proved
to be a rare bad performance and over the years he has looked to be very capable
in goal with his height being an obvious advantage. Works as a car dealer and has
had long spells of unavailability from time to time due to that, family commitments
and various injuries, thereby resulting in a constant battle with Simon Jackson to
regain his place in the side whenever he is available. Has now accepted that he will
