Barnet Sunday League Division One Match

Referee:  Alex Flett

Venue:  ENFIELD PLAYING FIELDS, Sketty Road Entrance, Enfield, Middlesex EN1 3SJ (Pitch 3)

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions: Pitch 3 at Enfield Playing Fields is the one that runs alongside the caged 3G pitch at the Southbury Leisure Centre end (as opposed to the one we train on at the Donkey Lane end of the playing fields). It is right next to the Central Pavilion, which is where we will be changing. The nearest car park is the small one off Sketty Road which you can see by clicking on the ‘Street View (Entrance’) link above. To get to that car park from Southbury Road, drive past the TGI Fridays/Harvester/Meeting Place Pub junction (set of lights) heading towards Enfield Town and take the next right into Bryn-Y-Mawr Road. Turn left at the bottom and the drive-in-entrance is almost immediately on the right. The postcode for this entrance is EN1 3SJ. Alternatively you can park in the Southbury Leisure Centre car park and walk round the back of the Astroturfs and the pitch we are on is immediately in front of you. If you park at the Donkey Lane end, you will have to walk all the way down the path through the centre of the playing fields.
CLICK HERE to see a Pitch Map of Enfield Playing Fields. (The pitch we are on is marked as ‘FP03’).
Please note that this match is a 10.30.a.m. Kick-Off and
we want all players aiming to arrive at the venue by 9.30.a.m. so that we have at least an hour for preparation.
  • The squad will be announced in our players’ WhatsApp Group on the Friday before the match.
  • Players will be charged £7.00 each for playing in this match, with reduced amounts for anybody playing 60 minutes or less.
  • We lost 2-0 at Home to FC LOKOMOTIV THUNDER way back in September when we actually played quite well in atrocious weather conditions, but the opposing goalkeeper had an outstanding match. FC Lokomotiv Thunder then had a good run in the London FA Sunday Junior Cup in reaching the Semi-Finals, but they have been on a poor run since then, losing seven out of their last eight matches, with a 1-1 draw against Hornsey & Highgate being their only point gained. In fact we will finish above them in the table if we win this match and we could even go on to finish Runners-Up if other results go our way. With us getting players back from injuries and University commitments, we should be fielding a strong side for this match and we will therefore be aiming for our first win in four attempts against our opponents.

Sunday 5th May 2019

NO MATCH ARRANGED

  • We have no League match arranged for this date as it is League Cup Finals Day at Wingate & Finchley FC in which our only remaining opponents, Zenit St. Whetstone’s Manager will be involved as a League official, as will Laurence Hughes, meaning any game we play on this date will not be filmed.

Barnet Sunday League Division One Match

Referee:  T.B.A.

Venue:  EDMONTON SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB, Church Street, Edmonton, London N9 9HL (Pitch 5)

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • PLEASE NOTE: The date for this match will be confirmed on Monday 6th May, as it is dependent on results from the 28th April and the 5th May involving The Winchmore, whose Home pitch is Pitch 5. (We can no longer use our normal Home pitch this season as the goalposts have now come down for cricket, so Pitch 5 is now the only one available throughout May). If The Winchmore’s remaining Home matches in the Premier Division still have a bearing on the title, then they will be given priority to use the pitch on the 12th May and we will have to play on the 19th instead.
  • Directions: For the benefit of our opponents, Referees and any new players who have just joined us, the Edmonton Sports & Social Club is better-known locally as either ‘Edmonton Cricket Club’ or ‘Norsemen Football Club’. (Norsemen play in the Southern Amateur League on Saturdays). The club is a 15-20 minute walk straight down Church Street from Edmonton Green Station, passing under the railway bridge, or you can get a W8 bus from there. The club is right on the corner of the Church Street/A10 junction and here is what the entrance looks like. Buses 231 and 217 run along the A10 between Turnpike Lane Underground Station and Enfield and they stop right outside the ground.

  • ZENIT ST. WHETSTONE’S FIRST TEAM have just clinched the Division One title with a 5-0 Away win against FC Lokomotiv Thunder on the 7th April and they are clearly the best team in the division...and quite possibly the whole League, having not lost a League match since re-joining the League at the start of last season. They emulated us last season by winning the Division Two title while going the whole season unbeaten...as we did the season before in that division, but unlike us they have not found Division One a struggle and have continued to win and also strengthen their squad with quality players. We lost 5-0 to them at Enfield Grammar School back in February when we had numerous defenders missing and Louis Bennett Junior had to play in goal without a shirt that fitted him properly, and we also suffered an embarrassing 6-0 defeat to them last season in the League Senior Cup as we fielded a badly-understrength side and made some shocking defensive errors. CLICK HERE to see the highlights of that match and CLICK HERE to see the highlights of this season’s previous match. This will be our last League match of the season, so it would be good if some of our players can recover from injury in time or take a break from their University commitments to play in this match and cause a shock result.
