Barnet Sunday League Division One Match

Referee:  Jide Ogunba

Venue:  BETHUNE PARK, Park Way, Whetstone, London N20 0XN

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions from Edmonton/Enfield: From our Home ground at the A10/Church Street junction, go down to the Cambridge roundabout and turn right onto the North Circular (A406), then after the two traffic light junctions (Green Lanes and then Brownlow Road), get in the right-hand lane and go straight on towards Arnos Grove (A1110) when the North Circular bends round to the left. You then come to a big roundabout in Friern Barnet where you take the first exit onto the A109 (Friern Barnet Road), then you take the sixth turning on the right here into Glenthorne Road. Keep going down Glenthorne Road straight into Crescent Road and then (after a sharp right bend) into Bethune Avenue where the ground entrance is directly ahead at the bottom of the road (at the junction with Park Way).
Please note that this match is a 10.30.a.m. Kick-Off and
we want all players aiming to arrive at the venue by 9.15.a.m. so that we have at least an hour for preparation.
  • The squad will be announced in our players’ WhatsApp Group on the Friday before the match.
  • Players will be charged £7.00 each for playing in this match, with reduced amounts for anybody playing 60 minutes or less.
  • We beat GTFA 3-0 back in September in what was our first Home game of the season. We fielded a near full-strength side in that match as we were having a photo-shoot done for our new kit, while GTFA had three of their better players suspended and only turned up with a bare eleven. CLICK HERE to see the highlights of that match...which included a brilliant goal from Ayo Matthews which went viral on social media. We also beat them twice in Division Two last season with excellent performances, but this is likely to be a much tougher game for us with key players still likely to be missing. It is a game we will need to win with GTFA currently below us in the Division One table.

Inter-League Challenge Cup Quarter-Final

Referee: ‘David’

Venue:  HACKNEY MARSHES, Homerton Road, London E9 5PF

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions from Edmonton/Enfield: From our Home ground at the A10/Church Street junction, go down to the Cambridge roundabout and turn left onto the North Circular (A406) Eastbound through Walthamstow & Woodford, then turn off at the A12 and take the 4th exit on the roundabout towards Stratford (A12). After several miles, turn off at the Lea Interchange (A106), then keep in the left-hand lane of the two lanes turning right towards New Spitalfields Market (A106). After the lights, keep in the left-hand lane and go straight on/leftish onto the B112 (Homerton Road). The entrance to the Hackney Marshes car park is about 400 yards down on the right.
Please note that this match is down as an ‘Afternoon Kick-Off’, but we don’t know exactly what time at the moment.
The car park at Hackney Marshes is an absolute nightmare from about 10.00 am onwards as they closed the big East Marsh car park for the Olympics and never put it back, despite resurrecting 12 football pitches on that East Marsh. Consequently anybody who arrives at the ground between 10.00 & 12.30 pm simply cannot get in...or out, as there is no street parking allowed anywhere, so cars have to block each other in until the morning matches have finished.
  • We do not yet know what pitch we are on or how long a walk we will have from the changing rooms, and we also do not yet know if the game goes to Extra-Time or straight to a penalty shoot-out in the event of a draw after 90 minutes.
  • The squad will be announced in our players’ WhatsApp Group on the Friday before the match.
  • Players will be charged £7.00 each for playing in this match, with reduced amounts for anybody playing 60 minutes or less.
  • This Inter-League competition features selected teams from our League, the Hackney & Leyton Sunday League and the Inner London (Bangladeshi) Sunday League, which is where our opponents BURDETT are from. There is only one division in their League and they are currently struggling near the bottom, but they have been running for 10 years and appear to also have some kind of Youth setup. Other than that, we know nothing about them. The other teams from our League who are participating in this competition are Whitewebbs Eagles from Division Two and Premier Division sides Roving Reporters and Oakwood Town. The Final is apparently played at the Mile End Stadium with a cash prize for the winners.

10:30 K.O.

Barnet Sunday League Division One Match

Referee:  Dave Thomas

Venue:  EDMONTON SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB, Church Street, Edmonton, London N9 9HL (Pitch Two)

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions: For the benefit of our opponents, Referees and any new players who have just joined us, the Edmonton Sports & Social Club is probably better-known locally as either ‘Edmonton Cricket Club’ or ‘Norsemen Football Club’. (Norsemen play in the Southern Amateur League on Saturdays). The club is a 15-20 minute walk straight down Church Street from Edmonton Green Station, passing under the railway bridge, or you can get a W8 bus from there. The club is right on the corner of the Church Street/A10 junction and here is what the entrance looks like. Buses 231 and 217 run along the A10 between Turnpike Lane Underground Station and Enfield and they stop right outside the ground.

  • We beat NEW BARNET 5-0 in their Home game at Oakhill Park back in September in what was our second League game of the season. CLICK HERE to see the highlights of that match. It was an outstanding performance in which we played some quality football, but unfortunately those days are long gone thanks to the injury problems we have had since then, and with New Barnet having won a few games since then, this will be a much tougher test with both teams now in a battle to avoid relegation.

  • We drew 1-1 with KEDARES TOWN at Oakhill Park in our first game of the season, and that proved to be a bad result as they have only won two matches so far this season, one of which was in their last match when they beat fellow strugglers New Barnet 3-0. We missed numerous clear-cut chances in that first match, so we will need to improve on that if we want to avoid finishing bottom of the table ourselves. HORNSEY & HIGHGATE

AWAY

Referee:  T.B.A.

Venue:  HIGHGATE WOOD SPORTS GROUND, Muswell Hill Road, London, N10 3JN

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions from Edmonton/Enfield: To get to Highgate Wood Sports Ground from our Home ground at the A10/Church Street junction, go down the A10 and straight across the A406 junction (Cambridge Roundabout) towards Tottenham, then turn right at The Roundway, then right at Lordship Lane and first left towards Turnpike Lane Underground. Go straight across at the station towards Hornsey. In Hornsey, turn left into Farrier Road, then straight across into Cranley Gardens. Turn left at the bottom of Cranley Gardens into Muswell Hill Road and look for Onslow Gardens on the left. Park where you can in or after Onslow Gardens on the main road and go into the Woods at that Onslow Gardens entrance. (Onslow Gate). Go straight ahead/right’ish, then turn left down the path towards the Cafe. (Look out for the brown signposts). The changing rooms and pitch is next to the Cafe.
This match is a 10.30.a.m. Kick-Off as normal, so we want all players aiming to arrive at the venue by 9.15.a.m. so that we have at least an hour for preparation.
  • The squad will be announced in our players’ WhatsApp Group on the Friday before the match.
  • Players will be charged £7.00 each for playing in this match, with reduced amounts for anybody playing 60 minutes or less.
  • We lost 3-1 at Home to HORNSEY & HIGHGATE in mid-October, which was the start of our recent bad run of form. CLICK HERE to see the highlights of that match. Since then, Hornsey & Highgate have lost heavily to League leaders The Winchmore, but they are well above us in the table and we will need to win this match to try and catch them up.

  • We drew 0-0 with THE WINCHMORE back in November, which was an excellent result for us at the time, as they are currently the runaway Division One leaders and have not lost a League game all season. CLICK HERE to see the highlights of that match. Such is the way that Division One has gone this season with everybody else beating each other, we could actually be in a position to finish Runners-Up if we win this match, while The Winchmore could well clinch the title with a win. It will certainly be a game worth waiting for if it pans out that way.
