PANATHINAIKOS

HOME

10:30 K.O.

London FA Sunday Junior Cup, Second Round

Referee:  Andrea Manzini

Venue:  EDMONTON SPORTS & SOCIAL CLUB, Church Street, Edmonton, London N9 9HL (Pitch Two)

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions: For the benefit of our opponents, Referees and any new players who have just joined us, the Edmonton Sports & Social Club is probably better-known locally as either ‘Edmonton Cricket Club’ or ‘Norsemen Football Club’. (Norsemen play in the Southern Amateur League on Saturdays). The club is a 15-20 minute walk straight down Church Street from Edmonton Green Station, passing under the railway bridge, or you can get a W8 bus from there. The club is right on the corner of the Church Street/A10 junction and here is what the entrance looks like. Buses 231 and 217 run along the A10 between Turnpike Lane Underground Station and Enfield and they stop right outside the ground.
CLICK HERE to view a PDF Map of the ground.
Please note that this match is a 10.30.a.m. Kick-Off and
we want all players aiming to arrive at the venue by 9.15.a.m. so that we have at least an hour for preparation.
  • The squad will be announced in our players’ WhatsApp Group on the Friday before the match.
  • Players will be charged £7.00 each for playing in this match, with reduced amounts for anybody playing 60 minutes or less.
  • PLEASE NOTE THAT IF THE SCORES ARE LEVEL AT THE END OF 90 MINUTES, THIS MATCH GOES STRAIGHT TO PENALTIES WITHOUT EXTRA-TIME BEING PLAYED.
  • PANATHINAIKOS were in the Premier Division of our League at the start of last season before folding just after Christmas due to a lack of players and numerous heavy defeats. They have now re-formed for this season to play in the Second Division of the KOPA (Cypriot Community) League using players from last season’s successful Watford Friendly League Under-18’s team, and it is thought that older players from their former Barnet Sunday League team will join up with them as well, in which case we could be in for a tough match.

FC LOKOMOTIV THUNDER

AWAY

10.30 K.O.

Barnet Sunday League Division One Match

Referee:  Ian Fernandes

Venue:  HIGHGATE WOOD SPORTS GROUND, Muswell Hill Road, London, N10 3JN

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions from Edmonton/Enfield: To get to Highgate Wood Sports Ground from our Home ground at the A10/Church Street junction, go down the A10 and straight across the A406 junction (Cambridge Roundabout) towards Tottenham, then turn right at The Roundway, then right at Lordship Lane and first left towards Turnpike Lane Underground. Go straight across at the station towards Hornsey. In Hornsey, turn left into Farrier Road, then straight across into Cranley Gardens. Turn left at the bottom of Cranley Gardens into Muswell Hill Road and look for Onslow Gardens on the left. Park where you can after Onslow Gardens on the main road and go into the Woods in any one of several walk-in entrances. The Sports Ground is a long walk away down various winding paths. We have not played at this venue before, so please allow extra time to park and find the pitch.
This match is a 10.30.a.m. Kick-Off as normal, so we want all players aiming to arrive at the venue by 9.15.a.m. so that we have at least an hour for preparation. As we are playing at the same ground the week before, there should be no excuses for lateness !
  • The squad will be announced in our players’ WhatsApp Group on the Friday before the match.
  • Players will be charged £7.00 each for playing in this match, with reduced amounts for anybody playing 60 minutes or less.
  • FC LOKOMOTIV THUNDER are below us in the Division One table, but they have only had one bad defeat so far this season when they lost 7-2 to Churchbury...the same five-goal margin as we did ! Their other three defeats (to The Winchmore, Hornsey & Highgate and Grange Park) have all been by one goal only and they have actually won their last two matches. That suggests this will be a very close game.

THE WINCHMORE

AWAY

10.30 K.O.

Barnet Sunday League Division One Match

Referee:  Jide Ogunba

Venue:  T.B.A.

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Although it currently says on Full-Time that this match is being played at Latymer School, The Winchmore have not actually used that pitch so far this season. It has never been used for adults Sunday morning football before, so presumably it was just wishful thinking on their part when they told the League it was their Home ground ? Their two Home matches so far have been played at Winchmore Hill FC and on Pitch One at our own Home ground, but they appear to have just been one-offs. We will probably not find out where this game is being played until the Wednesday before the match.
This match is a 10.30.a.m. Kick-Off as normal, so we want all players aiming to arrive at the venue by 9.15.a.m. so that we have at least an hour for preparation.
  • The squad will be announced in our players’ WhatsApp Group on the Friday before the match.
  • Players will be charged £7.00 each for playing in this match, with reduced amounts for anybody playing 60 minutes or less.
  • THE WINCHMORE are a new team to the League this season, but several of their players were with Premier Division teams in the now-defunct Waltham Sunday League and many of them will have played against us before. In fact one of their registered players, Jon Ellis-Browne actually played three games for us several years ago, getting sent off in one of them ! The Winchmore are currently unbeaten in their seven Division One matches played so far, and they are currently level on points with leaders Churchbury at the top of the table. We will therefore be big underdogs for this match on current form.

EDMONTON BLADES

AWAY

10:30 K.O.

Barnet Sunday League Division One Match

Referee:  T.B.A.

Venue:  ENFIELD PLAYING FIELDS, Ladysmith Road, Enfield EN1 3AJ (Pitch 14)

STREET VIEW (Entrance)

  • Directions for car parking & meeting: Pitch 14 is behind the trees on the left at the bottom of the Ladysmith Road car park, just after a 9-a-side Youth pitch. If we want to use the changing rooms before or after the match, we have to go in the Central Pavilion, which is opposite the Baseball pitch in the middle of the playing fields.
To find the Ladysmith Road car park, if you are coming down Southbury Road from the A10 in Enfield towards Enfield Town centre, Ladysmith Road is a sharp turning here on the right opposite a piano shop and music school and just before you get to the lights for Tescos (Willow Road). Go straight down Ladysmith Road and look for house number 93 on the right. The drive-in entrance to the car park is here next to that house.
CLICK HERE to download and view a PDF pitch map of Enfield Playing Fields.

  • We have already played EDMONTON BLADES at Home this season where we were somewhat fortunate to scrape a 3-2 win which was the start of our current problems with injuries and a loss of form. CLICK HERE to see the highlights of that match. Since then, Blades have drawn 3-3 with Grange Park and lost 4-1 to FC Lokomotiv Thunder, although that last match was a disputed one as Blades thought they were playing a Friendly when the appointed League Referee failed to turn up...which was the rules back in our Waltham League days, but not in the Barnet League (unknown to them). This could well be a tougher game for us than the Home match and we will need to have improved by the time we play this game.

  • HIGHGATE ALBION RESERVES finished Runners-Up in Division One last season to gain promotion and join their First Team in the Premier Division. Although they have had to register their players separately and are not allowed to use any First Team players, they have strengthened their squad considerably and have only lost a couple of matches so far this season, one of which was to their First Team on the opening day of the season. The other was to a top team from another League in the Middlesex Sunday Intermediate Cup. Although we beat them 2-1 when we played them in a Pre-Season Friendly before the start of this season, they will be fielding a much stronger side than that in this match, and we will need to play well if we want to progress in this competition.
