Midfielder |
Age

|
First
Team Debut: 20th February 2005 v. F.C. Boca Hill (Mercury
Waltham Sunday League Premier Division Match at Hazelwood Sports Ground)
Reserve Team Debut:
8th August 2004 v. Northmet (Riverside) Reserves (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the
Riverside Club, Turkey Street, Enfield) |
|
Tem
is a promising midfielder of Turkish descent who was brought along by
Colin Bester to Pre-Season Training during the
Summer of 2004 as a 16-year-old. Played really
well and scored a good goal on his debut for the Reserve Team and despite being small in
height, is stockily-built and capable of looking after himself in men's
football, as well as having good control and passing ability. Decided to
play in a Turkish Community Youth League for most of the 2005-2006
Season
following the Reserve Team's demise, but returned towards the end of the
season to try and
gain a regular place in the First Team. Has been mainly used as a substitute
since then, but has been playing well in our Summer 7-a-side League matches where he has improved his
fitness and gained some much-needed experience. Won the Most Improved
Player Award for Season 2007-2008 and could well gain a regular place in the side this season, either in a central or
wide midfield role. |

FOYSOL AHMED
|
Midfielder or
Forward |
Age
28 |
|
First
Team Debut: 11th
April 2004 v. White Hart (Mercury Waltham Sunday League Premier Division
Match at Waltham Cross Playing Fields)
Reserve Team Debut: 25th
January 2004 v. Abbey Youth Old Boys Reserves (Mercury Waltham Sunday League Division
4 Match at Cheshunt School) |
|
Joined
the club in December 2003 and although he was brought along by Ali
Ahmed, Foysol is no relation. Apparently told one of our players that he
used to be on Tottenham’s books as a Junior and since making his debut
in January 2004 he has certainly looked a useful player with plenty of
skill and ability, although he may need to be a bit more aggressive to
gain a regular place in the starting line-up. Is normally used in a wide
midfield position but prefers to play in attack, where he has scored
quite a few important goals for us, especially after coming on as a
second-half substitute. As a Moslem, Foysol misses quite a few matches
early in the season while observing Ramadam, and he only made two
appearances last season due to work commitments which included opening
up up a fast-food takeaway near the Spurs Ground and teaching Rovers
players how to drive (which is his full-time job). Foysol is one of a handful of our former
Reserve Team players to successfully make the step up to the First Team
squad following the Reserve Team's demise at the start of Season
2005-2006
and he is also one of our better players in the Summer 7-a-side League
when he is available. Is hoping to play 11-a-side more regularly this
season. |

PAUL AMICO
NEW SIGNING |
Midfielder or
Defender |
Age
27 |
|
First
Team Debut: 31st August 2008 v. Woodhurst (Pre-Season
Friendly Match at the Ashton Playing Fields, Woodford)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Paul
has been brought along to the club for the start of this season by his
Norsemen
colleagues from Saturday football, Danny Green, Scott Jenkins & Martin
Loveday, but unlike those three, he has been a First XI regular for
Norsemen for many seasons and is arguably their best player by all
accounts, so it is a real coup for us in being able to sign a player of
his calibre to play for us on Sundays. Has previously played for Premier
Division side Lea Valley Royals. Is now working his way back to fitness
after a long injury lay-off and will hopefully be a regular for us in a
right midfield or right wing-back position. |

|
JIM ARROWSMITH
|
Defender or
Midfielder |
Age
29 |
|
First
Team Debut:
19th August 2007 v. Hatfield Heath XI (Pre-Season Friendly Match at
Hatfield Heath F.C.)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Jim plays for
A.F.C. Bush Hill Park in the Monday Night Summer 7-a-side League at the
Southgate Hockey Centre, but occasionally plays for our Thursday Night
team when needed, having known Alan Barnard, Tim Beeden, Tony Speller &
others for a number of years after playing cricket for Edmonton. Is a
very useful experienced left-sided defensive midfielder who can also
play as a left-back or left wing-back, but he has only played in a
couple of
Pre-Season Friendlies for us so far due to family commitments on Sundays.
Has been playing 11-a-side on Saturday mornings in a Church Football
League for several years, but is hoping to be 'allowed' to play for us
on Sundays as well this season and is registered in case of
'emergencies' at the moment. |

|
ALAN BARNARD
|
Defender |
Age
30 |
|
First
Team Debut:
19th August 2001 v. Cheshunt Sunday (Pre-Season Friendly Match at
Cheshunt F.C.)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
'Barney'
made just one Pre-Season
Friendly appearance back in 2001 but was unable to join the club at the
time due to work and studying commitments in Portsmouth. Has still managed
to play for Edmonton Cricket Club during the Summer for several years though, which was
where he knows some of our players from, and having returned to live
in the Edmonton area at the start of Season 2006-2007 he decided to sign
up and play for Rovers on a fairly regular basis, albeit a bit
reluctantly at first due to 'Saturday Night partying' ?! Immediately
gained a regular place in the side as a central defender/sweeper and is very much a key player,
although he often takes 'a few' holidays
during the season as cricket is his number one sport. |
| |
|
ROB
BROWN
|
Midfielder |
Age
29 |
|
First
Team Debut:
24th February 2008 v. St. Margaretsbury (Sunday) (Mercury Waltham Sunday
League Division One Match at Hazelwood Sports Ground)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Rob
is an experienced central midfielder who joined the club towards the end
of last season after having a few beers with skipper Stuart Dorward !
Also knows some of our other players from playing Saturday football with
Norsemen a few years ago and
from playing for the now-defunct London Ajax, a former Premier Division
team in our League. Scored on his debut in a 4-1 win against St.
Margaretsbury and is definitely a quality player who made a big
difference when he joined, and if he can play on a regular basis this
season when family commitments allow, he will almost certainly be one of
the first names on the team-sheet in a central midfield role where his
competitiveness will be vital. |
| |
|
TERRY
BROWN
NEW SIGNING
|
Forward or
Midfielder |
Age
26 |
|
First
Team Debut:
24th August 2008 v. A.C. Enfield (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the
Downs, Brimsdown)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Terry is the
younger brother of Rob and another former London Ajax player. Currently
plays for Wormley Rovers on Saturdays in the Herts Senior County League
and is therefore another quality new signing for us this season. Terry
is a very aggressive player who usually plays as a forward, but he made
his Rovers debut in the centre of midfield and may well play most of his
games for us in a position just behind the forwards.
|
| |
|
STUART BYHURST
|
Midfielder |
Age
30 |
|
First
Team Debut: 16th September 2007 v. St. Mary's
(Edmonton) (Mercury Waltham Sunday League Roy Bailey Challenge Cup Match
at Hazelwood Sports Ground)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Stuart is a work colleague
of Conor Mc,Govern's at Deutsche Bank in the City, and joined after
being brought
along to play in a Summer 7-a-side League match in July 2007. Was only
able to play the one match but looked a useful player despite wearing
studs on the Astroturf ! Was then signed up to play on Sundays despite living
near Basildon in Essex, and made 12 appearances for us last season,
mainly in a midfield holding role, although he also helped out as a
central defender on occasions. Has apparently played 'semi-pro' in the past and
has good control and passing ability, so he is definitely capable of
challenging for a regular place in the starting line-up if family
commitments allow.

STEVE
COKELL
|
Midfielder |
Age
30 |
|
First
Team Debut:
26th August 2001 v. Northmet Riverside (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the
Riverside Club, Turkey Street, Enfield)
Reserve Team Debut:
10th August 2003 v. Enfield Crusaders (Pre-Season Friendly Match at
Ashton Playing Fields, Woodford) |
|
Steve was brought along to the club at
the start of the 2001-2002 Season by his former Club Secretary Scott
Robertson from the now-defunct Beehive (Wormley) F.C., who were in our
Division in the Mercury Waltham Sunday League the season before, so we
knew all about his capabilities. Had no hesitation in joining us though
as he lived only a couple of minutes away from our Home Pitch at
Hazelwood Sports Ground. However, the club was also recommended to him
by Stuart Dorward, who was one of his team-mates at Spartan South
Midlands League side
Hoddesdon
Town in the mid/late-90's. Steve has also
played regularly in Saturday football (for
Old Minchendenians
First XI in an A.F.A. League) and was on West Bromwich Albion's books as
a youngster. Despite being small in stature, he has often been used as a
lone striker during his Rovers career, but he switched to a left-sided
midfield role towards the end of Season 2006-2007 following a bit of a goal
drought and proved to be highly effective in that position. Should be a
regular in the starting line-up again this season if increasing work and
family commitments allow and is definitely a
key player.

GREG CUMMINS
NEW SIGNING
|
Forward |
Age
26 |
|
First
Team Debut:
24th August 2008 v. A.C. Enfield (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the
Downs, Brimsdown)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Greg
has been brought along to the club for the start of this season by
Manager Trevor Hughes, who works with him in the Courts Service where
Greg is a Probation Officer. Has been playing in the top Division of the
Edmonton Sunday League for several seasons, most recently with one of
the leading sides
Turf Moor, for whom he regularly finished top goalscorer. With Turf
Moor now having folded up though, he has decided to step up into a
higher level of Sunday football in our League and he should prove to be
a key signing as he has good pace, skill and finishing ability. |

DANIEL DALEY
|
Forward |
Age
22 |
|
First
Team Debut: 15th August 2004 v. P.T. Rangers (Pre-Season Friendly Match at
The Meads, Hertford)
Reserve Team Debut:
8th August 2004 v. Northmet (Riverside) Reserves (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the
Riverside Club, Turkey Street, Enfield) |
|
Was
brought along as an 18-year-old (un-announced !) to a Reserve Team Pre-Season Friendly in
August 2004 by Leon Mc,Kenzie-Mc,Kay and promptly scored two goals in a
minute within 30 seconds of coming on as a substitute...despite never
having played in a properly-organised game of 11-a-side football before
!! Then went on to score a hat-trick on his First Team debut in
another Pre-Season Friendly whilst showing some frightening pace, skill
and ability. Only ended up playing in nine matches in that first spell
with the club though, mainly because he thought his team-mates were
having a go at him when they were just trying to help him and explain
things tactically...having a tendency
to run offside and running off the pitch without asking the referee's
permission being just two of 'Daley's problems !
Also tended to spend his subs
on gold chains and loud designer tracksuits in those early days, but
after a spell playing for the Reserve Team of Conference South side
Thurrock, he soon accepted the error of his ways and made a comeback for
us towards the end of Season 2006-2007 when he immediately made an impact by
bringing some much-needed pace to our
ageing forward line. Gained a fairly regular place in the side last
season, scoring 7 goals in 20 appearances, but still tends to
'disappear' from time to time due to work commitments and continually
changing his mobile phone number and e-mail address !. |

DEREK DORWARD
|
Forward or
Midfielder |
Age 37 |
|
First Team Debut:
27th February 1994 v. St. Mary's (Mercury Waltham Sunday League Div.5
Match at Hazelwood Sports Ground)
Reserve Team
Debut: 10th August 2003 v. Enfield Crusaders (Pre-Season
Friendly Match at Ashton Playing Fields, Woodford) |
|
Scottish-born
attacking player who joined the club after being brought along by his
younger brother Stuart. Scored a spectacular goal in only his second
game for the club (against Streatham & Mitcham in March 1994) which
features in Rovers
Goal of the Decade
Competition, and that ensured him a regular place in the side which
he has kept ever since. Has a good goalscoring record with well over 100
goals for the club and has finished the season as Top Goalscorer on a
number of occasions despite often playing in a wide midfield position.
Like his brother Stuart, 'Del' previously played in the Edmonton Sunday
League for the Accies (in the bottom Division) before joining Rovers and
'stepping up in class' !
Has kept himself fit in recent seasons, initially by working as a fitted
kitchen installer, and then more recently in a LIDL's warehouse, but
suffered a broken ankle towards the end of last season which may have
unfortunately put an end to his Rovers career with increasing work and
family commitments also not helping. Is still likely to sign up and play
when needed when he recovers though.

STUART
DORWARD (Club
Captain) |
Sweeper or
Midfielder |
Age
34 |
|
First
Team Debut:
9th January 1994 v. Old Bulls Head (Mercury Waltham Sunday League Div.5
Match at Presdales, Ware)
Reserve Team Debut:
10th August 2003 v. Enfield Crusaders (Pre-Season Friendly Match at
Ashton Playing Fields, Woodford) |

Younger
brother of Derek and also born in Scotland, but both of them moved to
England at an early age and were 'educated' (in the art of drinking
heavily ?) at Edmonton County School along with a number of their
past and present team-mates. Like Derek, Stuart is also a highly capable
goalscoring midfielder, although he is equally effective as a sweeper,
where his well-timed runs straight down the pitch into goalscoring positions
has often caught opposing teams out over the years. Had a lengthy spell
playing Senior Saturday football for Spartan South Midlands League side
Hoddesdon
Town in the mid-90's which really improved his fitness and
this saw him being voted as Rovers Player of the Year three times in
four seasons by his fellow players who were really appreciative of his
work-rate. Due to a persistent back problem he then gave up playing
Saturday football in the late-90's and concentrated on playing for
Rovers instead, for whom he has now made well over 300 appearances and
seems destined to surpass Demitrius Nurse's All-Time Club Record before
he retires. Stuart
has also played cricket for Waltham Cross Rosedale (as 3rd XI Captain)
where he 'poached' half of his Rovers team-mates from Edmonton Cricket
Club to join him, but family commitments now seem to have put that on
hold. Now works for his Rovers team-mate Peter Murphy at spread-betting
firm I.G.Index. Won the Players Player Of The Year Award for a fourth
time at the end of Season 2006-2007 and is arguably our most influential player as Club
Captain. Missed several matches last season due to injuries and family
commitments and it is hoped that he will be able to play on a more
regular basis this season.

DUBERRY
NEW SIGNING
|
Defender |
Age
26 |
|
First
Team Debut:
31st August 2008 v. Woodhurst (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the Ashton
Playing Fields, Woodford)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Josh
has been brought along to the club for the start of this season by his
ex-Turf
Moor team-mate Greg Cummins. He is a Cousin of
Reading defender Michael Duberry and in his appearances for us at
7-a-side and Pre-Season Friendlies during the Summer, he has shown good
pace and strength and does not shirk a challenge. Normally plays as a
left-back or a left wing-back, but he is more likely to end up as a
left-sided central defender if we play with three at the back, as we
need more cover in that area. Will definitely be pushing for a regular
place in the side as he is another good new signing with experience of
playing in a top Division in Sunday football. |

PAUL ELLERKER
|
Midfielder |
Age
33 |
|
First
Team Debut:
20th August 2000 v. Rose & Crown (Welwyn) (Pre-Season Friendly Match
at Welwyn Playing Fields)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Younger
brother of former Rovers midfielder Marco, Paul also played in the Film Industry 6-a-sides
at Stamford Bridge with Russell Beeden where Marco was 'spotted' back in
the Summer of 2000, but was initially a bit more reluctant
to join Rovers than his elder brother. However, a successful spell
playing for us in the Summer 7-a-side League made him change his mind and two
goals in his 11-a-side debut in a Pre-Season Friendly confirmed that he
would be a useful signing. Unfortunately, Paul suffered a loss of
confidence in front of goal towards the end of his first season with the
club, but a switch to a midfield holding role during the 2002-2003
Season saw him rejuvenated
and earn a regular place in the starting line-up where he became a
vital player for us. Paul has
also played (on and off) for teams in the Barnet Sunday League and is a
good competitive player who will always give 100%, even with a
'hangover'...which is quite often !
Has missed quite a few matches during the past few seasons due to family
and social commitments and didn't play at all last season, mainly due to
a back injury. Is hoping to make a comeback this season though, which
will definitely boost our chances of winning Division One if it happens.

|
Forward |
Age
27 |
|
First
Team Debut:
24th February 2008 v. St. Margaretsbury (Sunday) (Mercury Waltham Sunday
League Division One Match at Hazelwood Sports Ground)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Danny
was brought along to the club by Martin Loveday towards the end of last
season and hardly got a look in initially, mainly because we did not
have training and Manager Trevor Hughes did not know how good he was !
Only had 7 minutes worth of action as a substitute for his debut, but
then scored a Goal Of The Season contender after coming on as a
substitute in his second match which confirmed his ability, and he then
played more regularly as the season went on and will definitely be
challenging for a place in the starting line-up this season (depending
on availability). Was
Norsemen's
5th XI Captain last season and will be playing for their 3rd XI on
Saturdays this season, while the occasional late Saturday night work
shift also sometimes rules him out of playing on a Sunday morning.
Previously played on Sundays for Travellers United in the top Division
of the Edmonton Sunday
League.

|
Midfielder |
Age
20 |
|
First
Team Debut:
27th August 2006 v. Flamstead End (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the
Country Club, Cheshunt)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
E-mailed the club in
August 2006 asking to join after becoming disillusioned with the poor
standard of football at his previous club in the now defunct Walthamstow-based
Forest Sunday League. As he had previously been on the books of Leyton
Orient as a Junior and plays for Crouch End Vampires' First XI
in the Southern Amateur League on Saturdays though, we had no hesitation
in taking him on and he made a good impression as a competitive central midfield
player on his debut in a
Pre-Season Friendly against Flamstead End, and then in several League
and Cup matches thereafter. Unfortunately Danny missed a lot of matches
because of various injuries in his first season, but played more
regularly last season (apart from a three-match ban for a sending-off).
Despite his age, Danny is already one of the first names on Manager
Trevor Hughes's team-sheet where he is forming a really strong
partnership with the more experienced Rob Brown. Will hopefully be a key
player for us for the next few seasons.

SIMON JACKSON |
Goalkeeper |
Age
33 |

First
Team Debut:
24th August 2003
v. Abbey Youth Old Boys (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the Ninefields
Estate, Waltham Abbey)
Reserve Team Debut:
10th August 2003
v. Enfield Crusaders (Pre-Season Friendly Match at the Ashton Playing
Fields, Woodford Bridge) |
|
Was brought along to the
club in the Summer of 2003 by First Team regular Conor Mc,Govern, whose
ex-girlfriend is a friend of Simon's wife. Originally from
Stoke-On-Trent, Simon is a loyal Stoke City supporter and before he
joined Rovers this season he spent his Sunday mornings playing with
other ex-pats from the Stoke area for a Pub team in the Chiswick Sunday
League called 'Hole In The Head' (or something like that ?!). However,
as he lives in Enfield, playing for Rovers is obviously a lot more
convenient. Simon is an excellent shot-stopper and is capable of being a
regular first-choice keeper but has suffered from injury problems and a
lack of concentration and commitment at times due to his
number one sport being cricket, where he is a fast bowler for the First
XI of top Hertfordshire side Radlett. (Click
Here !)...although entering 'Ironman' competitions doesn't seem to
be too far behind !? Plays regularly for us in the Summer 7-a-side League and
intends to challenge for the No.1 spot at 11-a-side this season. Always has a very
vocal presence on the pitch with his broad Northern accent and the
defenders in front of him are quite often ‘deafened’ !

SCOTT JENKINS
|
Midfielder or
Defender |
Age
21 |
|
First
Team Debut:
9th March 2008 v. Broxbourne Rangers Old Boys (Mercury Waltham Sunday
League Division One Match at Hazelwood Sports Ground)
Reserve Team Debut: |
|
Was brought along
to the club by his Norsemen
colleagues Danny Green and Martin Loveday towards the end of last season
and made a good impression in his four appearances, both as an attacking
midfield player and a sweeper. Scott is a tall, quick, skilful player
who has played for Norsemen's 2nd XI on Saturdays and has obvious
potential as a replacement for Stuart Dorward in the attacking midfield
role if we play the 3-4-1-2 formation that was successful for us towards
the end of last season. Getting out of bed on a Sunday morning could be
his biggest problem though, but hopefully he will be an important part
of the squad this season. |

DARRYL JOHNSON
|
Goalkeeper |
Age 35 |
|
First Team Debut:
19th August 2001 v. Cheshunt Sunday (Pre-Season Friendly Match at
Cheshunt F.C.)
Reserve Team
Debut: 26th October 2003 v. Finchley Reds (London F.A.
Sunday Junior Cup Match at Bethune Recreation Ground, Friern Barnet) |
|
Signed
from the now-defunct Beehive (Wormley) back in 2001 along with Steve
Cokell, Darryl proved to be a useful acquisition in his first season
standing-in for then first-choice keeper Stavros Elia, although work &
family commitments on a Sunday restricted his appearances to just six.
However, when Stavros left the club during the middle of Season
2002-2003, Darryl became Rovers regular first-choice keeper and played
well enough to earn himself the Most Improved Player Award at the end of
the season. Although Darryl let in a couple of 'silly' goals when
playing against us for Beehive in the 2000-2001 Season, that has now
proved to be a rare bad performance and he has since looked to be very
capable in goal with his height being an advantage. Works as a car
dealer and has missed numerous matches during the last
three seasons due to
that, family commitments and various injuries, including virtually the
whole of last season due to a shoulder problem...something which played
a major part in us facing a relegation battle (again). Has hopefully now
got himself fit to play again this season, which will almost be like us
signing a new player !

Tony
is an Everton supporter from Hull who has now decided to support his
home town again now they are in the Premiership ! Was brought along to the club
at the start of Season 2006-2007 by Manager Trevor Hughes, who worked with
him at Highgate Magistrates Court at the time. Played in the Premier
Division of the (20-Division !?) Hull Sunday League in his younger days,
but had not played for several years before joining us and subsequently
found it hard to gain a regular place in the side at first, although other
commitments also played a part in that. Has been playing 7-a-side
regularly during the last two Summers though,
where he has shown plenty of good skill and clever touches, but he
sometimes tries to take on one player too many when he plays in his
preferred forward or attacking midfield role at 11-a-side. Was used as a
defensive left-sided midfielder on a number of occasions last season
though and did really well in that position, so he could turn out to be
a useful utility player
and may well be in the starting line-up a lot more often this season. |
