NO GAME ARRANGED

  •  This is the first week of the new League season, but we have no game arranged due to the usual lack of pitches in early September.
Our Home pitch at Hazelwood Sports Ground is not available because cricket is still being played over there.
It is actually good news that we do not have a game, as Manager Trevor Hughes is on holiday in Cyprus, Laurence Hughes is filming Grays Athletic v. Kidderminster (a lot of Conference matches are being played on Sundays this season !) & Skipper Stuart Dorward is in Macedonia watching Scotland ! We will therefore not be having a training session instead, as we have nobody available to organise it !

ABBEY YOUTH OLD BOYS

Mercury Waltham Sunday League, Division One

Venue:  HAZELWOOD SPORTS GROUND

Referee:  Andy SMITH

  •  For the benefit of new players to the club, CLICK HERE for details of where our Home pitch at Hazelwood Sports Ground is situated.

  •  We have played Abbey Youth Old Boys' First Team on five previous occasions over the years, and have beaten them four times. However, the last time we played them (in a Pre-Season Friendly at the start of last season), we were thoroughly outplayed in a 3-0 defeat, despite us fielding a reasonable side. They then went on to finish second in Division Two last season to gain promotion back to Division One, and they will be amongst the favourites for promotion again as they have a good young and very fit side who all turn up to training and play every week...unlike us ! Hopefully, then, some of the good new players who are interested in joining us will be registered and have paid their Annual Subs by the time we play this match !?

  •  Please note that he squad for this match may not be announced until Friday 12th September. This is due to current uncertainty regarding numerous injuries and also the payment of Annual Subs by certain players.

  •  Stuart Dorward & Conor Mc,Govern (at 'Buckley's Stag Do' abroad somewhere) are both definitely unavailable for this match, as are goalkeepers Darryl Johnson & Simon Jackson.

  •  Click here for Abbey Youth's website.

UPSHIRE RESERVES

M.W.L. Roy Bailey Challenge Cup First Round

Venue:  HAZELWOOD SPORTS GROUND

Referee:  Paul FULLER

  •  For the benefit of new players to the club, CLICK HERE for details of where our Home pitch at Hazelwood Sports Ground is situated.

  •  Upshire Reserves finished in mid-table in Division Three last season and A.C. Enfield (who we have just had a close game with) beat them 5-0 in a recent Pre-Season Friendly, so this is a game in which we will obviously be the favourites, although we went out of this Cup to a lower Division side last season of course !  Our First Team have never played Upshire's Reserves before, but our ill-fated Reserve Team played them in the League Reserve Cup Final back in April 2004, a game that we narrowly lost 1-0. As far as I am aware, a lot of Upshire's Reserve Team in that match still play for them now, whereas only Peter Murphy (currently injured) and Foysol Ahmed remain from our line-up in that game.

  •  The squad for this match will be announced here and on the Forum on Monday 15th September.

  •  Simon Jackson (GK) is on holiday for this match, but most of our players appear to be available at the moment.

Mercury Waltham Sunday League Fixtures for the rest of September and early October will appear here by Friday 19th September.
