MATCH POSTPONED...WATERLOGGED PITCH |
Report
(by Laurence Hughes):
This game was called off on the Thursday before the match by Enfield Council
because the pitch was too badly waterlogged for the groundsman to get his
machine to mark the lines out. (They are not contracted to do that job on a
Friday apparently !). Of course our players moaned like hell about that,
especially as we would have been fielding a much stronger squad than when we
lost 7-1 to Cheshunt Corinthians in the League Senior Cup in November, but
more torrential rain on Saturday night meant the pitch was still badly
waterlogged on the morning of the match anyway, and indeed every game in the
League was eventually called off waterlogged on this date. Ironically,
Cheshunt Corinthians apparently had numerous key players unavailable
according to their Secretary, but then we also had Jim Arrowsmith (Visiting
the in-laws), Paul Woolston (Babysitting) and Vernon 'Kizza' Nxumalo
(Shoulder injury) drop out of the squad before the postponement was
announced, while Daniel Daley, Danny Smith and Terry Brown did not reply to
text or Forum messages as usual, so they might not have been intending to
play anyway for all we knew !? |

MATCH POSTPONED...SNOW/FROZEN PITCH |
|
Report
(by Laurence Hughes):
This fixture was called off by Enfield Council on the Friday before the
match due to snow on the pitch, which presumably meant they could not mark
out the lines. With the weather forecast correctly predicting sub-zero
temperatures over the weekend though, there was never any chance of this
game being on, and indeed all matches in the Waltham Sunday League and
elsewhere in the North London area ended up being called off because of
frozen pitches. Although Alan Barnard & Jim Arrowsmith were out in South
Africa with the 'Barmy Army', Steve Cokell (a plumber) was not surprisingly
working and Darryl Johnson was on holiday, we still would have been fielding
a strong squad of 14 had the match gone ahead, but we should have a
full-strength squad to choose from when this game is finally played after
Christmas, so the postponement may be good news for us. |
